With planned production capacity of 14GWh, the first batch of battery cells mass-produced in CATL’s German factory rolled off the production line


On December 23 according China Quality News Network, recently, CATL officially stated that its first overseas factory in Thuringia, Germany has achieved mass production of lithium-ion battery cells as scheduled. This means that the CATL already has European local production and supply capabilities.

 

CATL stated that the first batch of battery cells in the German factory was successfully delivered from the first battery production line in the G2 plant, and the installation and commissioning of the remaining production lines are in full swing to achieve a smooth ramp-up to production. At the same time, this batch of batteries has passed all the tests of CATL’s global products, which means that it has local production and supply capabilities for European customers.

Matthias Zentgraf, Co-President of CATL Europe, said: “We are making every effort to ramp up the production capacity of the factory. This will also be our top priority for next year.” It is reported that CATL’s German factory plans to invest a total of 1.8 billion euros (about 13.321 billion yuan), with a planned production capacity of 14GWh, and will provide a total of 2,000 local jobs in the future.

According to public information, as of now, CATL has received orders from BMW, Daimler, Volkswagen and other international car companies. With the mass production of lithium-ion batteries in German factories, CATL has also taken a very critical step in overseas markets.
