The China Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE-China)’s Science and Technology Award (formerly the China Automobile Industry Science and Technology Award) is the first social force undertaking award registered and approved by the National Science and Technology Award Office in China, and it is also the only science and technology award for the national automobile industry. After more than 20 years of development and accumulation, it has become one of the highest-standard, most authoritative and influential technology awards in the country’s auto industry. The judging committee of the ” SAE-China Science and Technology Progress Award” is composed of experts and scholars with leading academic levels from academia and industry.
The “Key Technology and Industrialization of Efficient and Safe Electric Vehicle Battery Swap” project declared by NIO this time won the first prize after a preliminary evaluation competition with 134 automotive industry projects and a final evaluation of 25 projects.
The SAE-China’s evaluation of the project is: the project results have significant economic and social benefits, the overall technology has reached the international advanced level, and it has reached the international leading level in terms of vehicle-electricity separation, intelligent battery swapping, and multi-battery swapping network integration.

As of December 29, 2022, NIO has deployed 1,294 swap stations across the country, including 341 expressway swap stations, 2,254 charging stations, 13,206 charging piles, and more than 630,000 third-party charging piles have been connected. In 2023, NIO will build more than 1,700 battery swap stations and more than 20,000 charging piles in China.
On NIO Day 2022, NIO released the third-generation power station and 500kW ultra-fast charging. The third-generation power swap station adopts a brand-new coordinated power exchange mode, which improves the service capacity by 30% compared with the second-generation power swap station, and the maximum power exchange capacity in a single day is increased to 408 times, and the time for a single power exchange is further shortened; The third-generation power station will also be equipped with 2 lidars and 2 Nvidia OrinX chips, with a total computing power of 508TOPS, which can realize the function of calling and changing the battery of the vehicle.
