BYD plans to launch commercial electric trucks in China, Europe and Japan

According to news on March 8 from Flush Finance, BYD is now planning to aggressively enter the pure electric commercial vehicle market.

In the next three years, BYD plans to launch new commercial vehicle models in markets including China, Europe and Japan, according to a person familiar with the matter. BYD has budgeted more than $20 billion for its commercial vehicle unit through 2025, with major spending planned for research, product development and capacity expansion, the person said.

It’s part of a shift in the company’s mindset for the next generation of trucks.
Some in the industry argue that non-battery technologies such as hydrogen fuel cells are better suited for larger trucks, especially long-haul trucks, because the batteries that power them are too heavy. However, BYD believes that the company can solve this problem with the blade battery.
