On May 10, according to cn.technode.com, EHang unveils Two “Air Taxi” EH216-S and VT-30 at BEYOND Expo 2023.

The two products exhibited by EHang Smart at BEYOND Expo 2023 are: EH216-S designed for intra-city traffic needs, and VT-30 designed for inter-city traffic with longer battery range. Both products are pure electric and autonomous driving.

EH216-S has a maximum flight distance of 30km, a maximum flight time of 25min, and a cruising speed of 100km/h. The EH216-S has a payload of 220kg and can carry two passengers and an 18-inch piece of luggage per flight. The EH216-S is fully capable of air commuting in cities, while the VT-30 can meet the needs of longer ranges. There are eight propellers and a pair of fixed wings on both sides, and a propeller at the rear, greatly satisfying the mixed balance of lift and thrust in terms of configuration. The range can reach 300 kilometers, and the design endurance can reach 100 minutes.

EHang is the global leader in urban air mobility/electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft industry. In 2016, It released the world’s first pure electric manned self-piloted aircraft EH184 (single-seat prototype of EH216), and landed on Nasdaq in December 2019, becoming the world’s first listed UAM company.

As of March 31, 2023, EHang’s EH184, EH116, and EH216 series AAVs have accumulated more than 35,000 safe and autonomous test or demonstration flights in 12 countries in Asia, Europe, and the Americas. At the same time, EHang took the lead in launching commercialization in the world. As of December 31, 2022, it has delivered a total of 185 EH216 series autonomous aircraft to customers around the world.

Although urban air mobility is a brand new industry, we can see a lot of positive signals from both the market side and the regulatory side. A Morgan Stanley report pointed out that the market size of urban air mobility is expected to reach $1 trillion in 2040. In addition, regulatory agencies in various countries are promoting standards research and airworthiness certification.

In cooperation with the Civil Aviation Administration of China, EHang became the first and only pilot unit for manned drones in China in 2019. In January 2021, the Civil Aviation Administration of China accepted the application for EHang EH216-S type certification, and took the lead in launching the first type certification project for manned autonomous aircraft. As of April 2023, EH216-S has completed 75% of the compliance testing, which means that more than 90% of the entire type certification process has been completed. From the current point of view, this is the fastest progress among all ongoing eVTOL type certification projects in the world, and it is also the most advanced manned autonomous eVTOL aircraft.
